San Juan County Road Show 2025


Ready to take your passion for film to the next level? This hands-on training program offers a unique chance to dive into the world of filmmaking like never before.

Over two immersive days, you’ll explore the industry standard in film technology and tools as you choose a department that interests you - whether it’s camera, acting, grip/electric, assistant directing, or sound. You’ll learn the ropes of film production from industry veterans of their respective crafts alongside a team of fellow creatives, coming together to produce a standout short film from start to finish.

Along the way, you’ll be guided by experienced industry professionals who will share practical knowledge and insights you’ll carry with you for years to come. Whether you're behind the camera or in front of it, you'll walk away with real-world skills and unforgettable memories. It’s your chance to be part of something special: an opportunity to help bring a production to life and push your creative boundaries.

This training is offered through San Juan College, positions can be applied for as either Credit or Non-Credit.

The Road Show takes place over two days: Saturday, April 26, and Sunday, April 27. 8:30 AM Check-ins, 9 AM sharp starts. Days will have a hard out of 6 PM. Refreshments will be available throughout the days, and Lunch will provided each day as well.

Teaching Camera: Erick Castillo

Erick Castillo is a filmmaker and International Cinematographers Guild member. After attending the College of Santa Fe in 2005, he began working in the camera department, acquiring more than 65 feature, commercial and independent film credits. As a Film Loader and Camera Assistant, he has worked under 4 Oscar winning Directors of Photography along with many other notable productions like the Avengers and the TV series Longmire filmed in New Mexico. Erick's most recent short film, Pareidolia, won the 2018 Best Drama award at the New Mexico filmmakers showcase. He is excited to be working with the Stagecoach Foundation in their efforts to engage and inspire the next generation of New Mexico filmmakers.

Teaching Acting: Hank Rogerson

Hank Rogerson, SAG AFTRA, has acted in film, TV and theatre for over 30 years. He trained in Meisner in Los Angeles, and has acted in numerous TV and films as well as theater and improv shows. In TV he has worked on such shows as “Breaking Bad”, “Outer Range”, and the upcoming "Pulse". His film work has included “Sicario”, “14 Cameras”, and “Flamin' Hot”. In theater he has done “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. “La Bete”, The Butter and Egg Man”, and "Improv Schmimprov”. He has taught acting at The University of New Mexico, Santa Fe University of Art & Design and The New Mexico School for the Arts.

Teaching Assistant Directing: Amber LeRae

Amber LeRae Earls is a filmmaker and member of the Directors Guild of America and IATSE Local 480. She graduated from the University of New Mexico in 2004 with a B.A. in Stage Management & Directing. She also attended CNM's Film Technician Training Program. Amber has been in the NM Film industry for over a decade and has worked as a Producer, Director, UPM, AD, and in a number of other Production and crew roles over the years under Netflix, Bravo, CBS, Apple TV+, and many others. She also works on independent projects. She currently produces films under her company, Librada Pictures. Many of the films she's helped to produce have gone on to large film festivals and have won several awards. She's excited to be working with the Stagecoach Foundation and helping train the next generation of filmmakers in New Mexico.

A fun fact from Amber as we return to work with San Juan College: “I once stage managed in SJC's theatre on a UNM traveling show in during my undergrad ("A Doll's House").”

Teaching Grip/Electric: Ryan Halsey

After graduating from VFS with a concentration in Cinematography, Ryan Halsey relocated to New Mexico in 2007 to immerse himself in the indie film scene. Beginning his career in post-production before transitioning to Camera and ultimately falling in love with Lighting, he has built a reputation both on set and at Serious Grippage as a respected team and community leader. Ryan thrives in high-pressure environments, embracing the challenges of filmmaking and the collaborative nature of production. He believes in fostering a strong, efficient crew by building people up, ensuring every project delivers great content and compelling stories. His deep knowledge across nearly all aspects of filmmaking makes him an invaluable asset to any set.

Teaching Sound: Dave Sickles

Dave Sickles has been in the production sound world for the past decade and has worked on productions for Disney, Amazon, Netflix, and NBC. He has worked his way up through the ranks to become a Union sound mixer for NM Local 480.  Dave enjoys sharing his knowledge of sound in a production environment.  He graduated from UNM in 2013 with a BA in Cinematic Arts.
