Stagecoach Foundation Fundraiser @ The Armory for the Arts
Get ready for THE HU, a band that is unlike any other rock band in the world.
The Mongolian rock band and worldwide online sensation bringing eastern traditions to western rock will release their debut album, THE GEREG, September 13 on E7M (Eleven Seven Music) and headline a three-month North American tour
The Hu are about to take the world by storm, and Stagecoach Foundation and The Armory for the Arts, and the CCA are excited to welcome them to Santa Fe on October 5th. All proceeds will benefit Stagecoach Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating the opportunity and wealth gap for New Mexicans in the film and television industry through free training and workforce development facilitated by film and television professionals. For more info and to donate visit www.stagecoachfdn.org
Coming off a sold-out 23-date European summer tour throughout June and July, including six UK dates, the four-piece band combines traditional Mongolian instruments with modern American hard rock to create their own style of music they call “hunnu rock,” which derives from “HU,” the Mongolian root word for human beings. This unique sound blends heavy rock elements with traditional Mongolian guttural throat singing, accentuated by lyrics reflecting old Mongolian war cries and poetry. The word “gereg” in their debut album’s title was used as the first diplomatic “password” by the Mongol Empire during the time of Genghis Khan.
You can watch the band’s videos here The Hu Offical YouTube Page
Stagecoach Foundation will also be presenting opening act and band based out of New Mexico, Innastate, who is gaining international attention for their unique brand of reggae. The band's sound is modern yet honors their Indigenous heritage, musical roots, and love of music. The band believes in the power of music to connect people, offering heartfelt songs that reflect on the human experience, spirituality, and environmental issues. Innastate is Adrian Wall on guitar/vocals (Jemez Pueblo), Rylan Kabotie (Santa ClaraPueblo/Jicarilla Apache) on bass/vocal, Lawrence Bailon (Santa Clara Pueblo/Kewa Pueblo) on drums, Carlo Bluehouse Johnson (Isleta Pueblo) on guitar, Romeo Alonzo on Alto Saxophone and MC Tbone on the trombone/lyrical stylings
In 2019, Innastate was also voted “Best Reggae Band” by the Alibi Readers Poll readership in Albuquerque, NM. Innastate continues to work hard playing nearly a hundred shows per year and creating new music. “We believe it's important that our Native voices be heard, we strive to create the best music and live shows that we can, so we can be good a representation for our Indigenous peoples”, Adrian Wall says
For More Info on THE HU:
THE HU was founded in 2016 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia by their producer Dashka, along with band members Gala, Jaya, Temka, and Enkush. Together they create rock music with traditional Mongolian instrumentation such as the Morin Khuur (horsehead fiddle), Tovshuur (Mongolian guitar), Tumur Khuur (jaw harp), guttural throat singing built around the pillars of heavy rock: distorted guitars, bombastic drums, and aggressive rhythms. THE HU became an online sensation when they released music videos for “Wolf Totem” and “Yuve Yuve Yu” in December 2018, racking up a combined 34 million views to date. They re-released the singles on March 29, generating incredible global recognition across the globe. The track “Wolf Totem” reached Top 5 on the iTunes Rock Chart and achieved the #1 position in 19 different countries, while “Yuve Yuve Yu” reached #2 on the iTunes Rock Chart in 11 different countries. Both tracks are available digitally HERE.
In April, the band was offered Official Mongolian Ambassador to the World by the Minister of Foreign Affairs in Mongolia, while he congratulated them on their success.
The band’s inaugural performance as The HU was on June 2019 in their hometown, followed by their first headlining European and UK tour this past June and July. The band also debuted this summer on several major festivals including in Download Festival, Rock Am Park and more. On stage, the foursome expands to an eight-piece group to create an enveloping wall of sound.
Early Critical Praise:
“[The HU] are not just taking elements from Western music… Instead, they're using some of these elements and making their own authentic music. So it's not rock music performed by Mongolians. It's Mongolian rock music.
“You know when you find an artist you’re so enraptured and excited about that you want to tell anyone and everyone who’ll listen about them? That’s how I feel right now about The HU.”
“Hunnu rock has undoubtedly captured a global audience, spreading their transcultural sound across borders.”
