HOW TO STRIKE & DOCK A FILM SET WORKSHOP
If you are between the ages of 18 and 26, please join us for a special one-day workshop on striking and docking a film set. This is a fantastic opportunity to receive hands-on training on the ins and outs of working with film sets. If the set life is for you, please join us!
Instructor Sam Ramirez, a propmaker, gang boss, and IATSE 480 member who has worked on films and television series including Independence Day: Resurgence and the forthcoming Roswell, New Mexico, will guide participants on the many factors that go into set striking and docking.
Sets used in the workshop are from the New Mexico–filmed TV series Longmire. Topics covered include nomenclature, safety, order of operations, tools, and the carpentry techniques of deconstructing and docking set flats for future productions. Throughout, a recurring theme is the importance of teamwork at every stage of set striking and docking.
Check in is at 9:30am. Please wear close-toed shoes and clothes that can get dirty and allow for full movement. Snacks will be provided.
Space is limited—please RSVP today to reserve a spot. The workshop will be held at the Stagecoach Foundation Set & Prop House; we will email location details to confirmed attendees.
Aspiring and novice filmmakers and film crew, we look forward to seeing you there!
