Aspiring propmakers, join us for a hands-on beginner-level workshop on building and painting a set! Over the course of two days, we’ll learn the ropes of turning a vision into reality, transforming a concept for a film set into an actual working set.
Led by film-industry leaders Jim Twocrow (Day 1), Ted Wolff, and Mikel Carter (both Day 2), this workshop is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on set experience. A limited number of free tickets are available to young adults ages 18-30. Register below before they sell out!
Day 1, Friday Oct. 26, 10am-2pm: Building a Set with Jim Twocrow. Day 1 will cover tools, safety, building materials, wall assembly, building techniques, and nomenclature—using set pieces from the TV series Longmire.
Day 2, Saturday Oct. 27, 10am-2pm: Painting a Set with Ted Wolff and Mikel Carter. Day 2 topics include the rules of painting, tools and preparation, and techniques for cutting, rolling, block aging and more!

INSTRUCTOR BIOS
Mikel Carter is a New Mexico–based set painter who has been honing his craft on multiple seasons of Better Call Saul, The Night Shift, and most recently Roswell. After spending years doing historic masonry restoration on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, for commercial and residential properties, as well as National Register monuments, Mikel was recruited and mentored by Ted Wolff in 2016 to utilize his tricks from his previous construction trade to aid his team in bringing sets to life for Better Call Saul. Mikel has a ten-year-old son named Mason, a bachelors in Business Administration, and an MBA in Leadership.
Jim Twocrow is a Lakota Army Veteran, born in South Dakota and raised in New Mexico. He is an IATSE 480 member and has been an executive board member for the last nine years. Jim just finished working on the second season of Midnight, Texas. He was foreman for the entire Breaking Bad series. He has worked on the Tremors pilot, Mission Control, Spare Parts, The Edge, and many other productions, for NBC, Universal, Lionsgate, Disney, and Netflix, throughout his career.
Ted Wolff is a New Mexico native and has been representing the New Mexico film industry for the past decade as a set painter. He has painted sets for movies and TV series such as Avengers, Lone Ranger, Logan, Breaking Bad, and Better Call Saul ... to name a few. Ted is currently supporting the Warner Bros. production Roswell, as the foreman for the painting team. On set, Ted utilizes his sociology degree from UNM to work directly with art directors, construction coordinators, set painters, etc. He has been trained by some of the top set painters in Hollywood and loves to combine his skills and experience to turn writers’ dreams into reality. Ted is an avid outdoorsman, is the owner of New Mexico–based skiing company JustPointIt.com, and is expecting his first child this November with his partner Betsy.
